🦷 GRACEMED DENTAL DAYS ARE COMING THIS MONTH! 🦷

Kansas State Statute 72-6251 requires all students enrolled in Kansas schools to receive a free dental screening each year. In compliance with this requirement, GraceMed will be providing dental screenings for our district.

🪥 Why it matters:
Oral health is an important part of a child’s overall health and plays a critical role in their ability to learn and succeed in school. (Please note that this screening does not replace a regular dental exam with your dentist.)

📄 Consent Information:
• Paper consent forms will be sent home with all students in PreK–8th grade
• High school students wishing to receive extended services must complete the online consent form (link below)
• Passive consent is implied unless the school nurse is contacted
• If you wish to opt out, please complete the back side of the paper form or contact D’ana Heinlein, USD 309 District Nurse

📝 What to expect:
• A copy of the screening results will be sent home with your child
• Screenings require no sign-up
• Families may choose to sign up for expanded care (cleanings, fluoride varnish, sealants) using the online form
• A report will be sent home for any expanded services received

We are hiring!

This spring, Kansas students in grades 3-8, 10 and 11 took updated state assessments in math, reading, and science. The state also set new cut scores, which means this year’s results are being used as a fresh starting point. The state has now released the 2025 results. You can view your child’s scores by accessing the How’s School Going? app or the weekly link sent to your text message. Thank you for supporting our USD 309 learners!

Reno County schools are rallying AGAIN as a TEAM of educators for a shared professional learning day called All Hands on Deck. Over 1,100 teachers, Hutchinson Community College instructors, and administrators will be on HCC’s campus on January 5th, 2026 for a day of workshops, keynote presentations, and networking opportunities. An integral component of this day is connecting 1,100 area educators with vendors both inside and outside of education. Vendor options include being a part of our vendor showcase and leading presentations for attendees. It’s a great opportunity for some serious exposure to a LARGE audience! Below is a form that interested vendors can complete so that they can be a part of All Hands on Deck.

Mental Health and Well-Being Community Event Please join USD 309 Nickerson-South Hutchinson for an inspiring event open to the public. Relevant speakers Terrence Talley and B. Farris will present two unique programs at the Stringer Fine Arts Recital Hall (1300 N. Plum) on May 28th, 2025. - 5:30-6:30 - Is intended for families, students, and staff grades K-5 - 7:00 - 8:00 - Is intended for families, students, and staff grades 6-12 There is no cost for this special event designed to address real issues.

Congratulations are in order for retired USD 309 teacher, Mrs. Jacqulyn Ashcraft, as she will be inducted into the Kansas Teacher Hall of Fame, June 7 in Dodge City. USD 309 thanks Mrs. Ashcraft for not only her 38 years of service as teacher in the Nickerson school district, but her continued support for our district as a substitute teacher and volunteer for various extracurricular activities. This is a well deserved honor for an outstanding educator!
